Clouds: Shape and Volume

Learn how to use color to create volume and sense of weight in the clouds

Sun Rays and Glow Effects

Learn how to create the dramatic effect of sun rays passing through the clouds or the sun glow.

Color & Light During the Day

Learn how the sky color palette changes during the day.

Focus on the Skies!

In this course the Sky is the main player! It sets the mood. It defines the space. It's the center of interest.

While we capture the dramatic skies we’ll learn:

  • how to paint realistic clouds
  • how to create the illusion of depth and atmosphere in the sky
  • how the colors in the sky (and in the landscape) are affected by the time of day
  • how to create a beautiful effect of rays of light shining through the clouds
  • how to paint the glowing sun bathing the surrounding sky and clouds in warm light.

Reviewing the Color Basics will help us learn how to use colors properties (Color Value, Temperature and Chroma) to convincingly capture the mood of any scene and the effect of the shining light.
