Painting the Light of Italy

with Soft Pastels

Self-study Course (3 full demos):

Italy is an exciting subject for an artist! While painting beautiful Italian landscape, you will:

  • learn how to use color to capture the light and atmosphere of the scene
  • learn how to create depth in the painting
  • show the character of old buildings through the use of texture and color
  • use soft pastels in a looser sketching manner

The three projects will provide you with the opportunity to paint

  1. The beautiful hilly Tuscan countryside in the late afternoon
  2. The rocky Amalfi landscape with the fading mountains in the background
  3. A charming trattoria in Rome, with plenty of character and detail

You will also see how the light at different times of day is changing the colors in this beautiful landscape.

The demos are done on the toned paper (non-sanded and sanded) and will explore its advantages for quicker sketches. Practicing to work in a direct style (without relying on the underpainting technique) will better prepare you for painting on location in your travels.

Teachable.com provides unlimited time access to this course - you'll have many years to master the techniques I teach.

Being a teacher, I can spot a good teacher a mile away, and you have what it takes to do that...you know how to break down the steps needed to get the lesson across to students and help them paint a successful painting. Thank you so much for offering this workshop!

Thank you again!"
