Sunset Color Palette

Learn how to capture intense colors of the sunset, transforming an ordinary scene into a magical place.

Learn to Be Selective

Don't be afraid of architecture - learn to choose the details that tell the story.

Simplify the Trees

Learn to see the tree as a form, whether it has foliage or not. Use the negative painting to shape its silhouette and its branches.

Capture Sunset Glow on Trees!

In this lesson we'll learn how to capture the glow of the sunset, turning an ordinary backyard scene into a dramatic light show.

We will learn to:

  • use the power of contrast (value, chroma, temperature) to emphasize the glow and the key point in the composition
  • simplify the trees and architectural elements, choosing only the necessary details
  • shape the trees and tree branches using negative painting

"I have always admired your work, so I was thrilled to be able to take this class from you. Being a teacher, I can spot a good teacher a mile away, and you have what it takes to do that...you know how to break down the steps needed to get the lesson across to students and help them paint a successful painting. Thank you so much for offering this workshop!

Thank you again!"
